Plenty of options are available for a healthy lifestyle in southern Chesapeake
Here in Hampton Roads, fall is a great time to get back into a fitness regimen or pick back up on an outdoor activity you love as the temperature cools off a bit. If you’re lucky enough to live in the Hickory section of Chesapeake there are so many amenities, events, things to do and tons of options for getting in shape inside or outside (or both!)
Hit the Gym
Drop by the Anytime Fitness in Edinburgh Commons to get in a workout whenever it’s convenient for you. More of a group fitness person? The Hickory Jazzercise is one of the most active, highly attended locations in the region with a variety of classes that will have you dancing like nobody’s watching. CrossFit enthusiasts rejoice, Hickory’s CrossFit Krytpon is co-owned by Ben Smith, one of the most awarded CrossFitters of all time and winner of the 2015 “Fittest Person on Earth” title.
Get Outside
Northwest River Park is one of the most beautiful places in Chesapeake during the fall months. With miles of trails (including equine and bike-friendly trails) as well as an expansive playground and peaceful fishing spots all along Indian Creek and the Northwest River, this park can keep you and your family entertained for for days.
There are also several access spots for boating and kayaking in Hickory including Northwest River Park and Bob’s Fishing Hole, which has easy entrance and access to the Northwest River as well as tons of fishing tournament opportunities for the anglers.
Swing a Club
No more 6am tee times to try and beat the heat. Enjoy the course all day during the fall at one of the many beautiful golf courses in southern Chesapeake including Chesapeake Golf Club, Cahoon Plantation, and Battlefield Golf Club.
Take a Walk
One of the easiest but most effective ways to get healthy is to just go outside and take a walk! Folks who live in the more residential communities in Hickory, such as Hickory Landing at Edinburgh, enjoy easily walkable neighborhoods with sidewalks (a surprisingly rare thing in this area of the city), as well as safe and easy pedestrian access to a variety of shopping and dining. Take the dogs, the kids or just yourself for a stroll, meet some neighbors and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.
